UNODC supports developing anti-corruption training curriculum for Justice Academy in Kazakhstan

On 27-29 March UNODC organized the training-of-trainers course (ToT) to build the capacity of the faculty of the Justice Academy under the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan and local legal experts to design the effective anti-corruption training programs for judiciary.

The ToT sessions led by the experts from the Legal Policy Research Centre Public Foundation and covered such topics as anti-corruption international standards and national legislation, as well as related judicial practice and ethics of judges in considering corruption-related crimes cases. The expert from Lithuania shared an overview of the judicial practice on corruption-related cases in European countries.

As a result of the ToT, the participants strengthened their skills in assessment and analysis of the needs of the target audience which would be useful in structuring an anti-corruption training curriculum for judges. They learned different tools on developing methodology of effective training, including how to prepare memorable presentations, use interactive learning platforms, facilitate group discussions and create a positive learning environment.

The ToT course concluded with the short simulation exercise where participants modelled and presented their own scenario of training activity to be included into wider anti-corruption curricula of the Justice Academy.

The event is carried out with financial support from the U.S. Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Office in Astana.
