2 nd regional working group meeting involving Heads of the Information and Analytical Units

The 2 nd regional working group meeting involving Heads of the Information and Analytical Units of the Drug Control Agencies of the region as well as leading experts in drug control was convened in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 21 to 22 August 2019. The purpose of the event was to review and further refine a CARICC-developed methodology for assessing the drug situation in the participating States. The meeting was conducted jointly by CARICC and the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and neighboring countries.

Over the course of two days, the heads of the analytical units and experts from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, together with experts from the RATS SCO and UNODC reviewed a draft analysis of the drug situation in the CARICC member states for 2016 - 2018, prepared by CARICC in accordance with the concept and methodology developed and rolled out after the first meeting in November 2018. The participants reviewed the analytical methods applied and the results and challenges and agreed on improvements to the methodology. In addition, recommendations were adopted to supplement the draft analysis with updated data and to develop new forms of cooperation on data analysis moving forward.
