Bangkok (Thailand), 26 June 2012 - Thailand marked 26 June - commemorated around the world as the "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" with a ceremony in Bangkok organised by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and presided over by the Prime Minister, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra.
Mr. Gary Lewis, UNODC Regional Representative, East Asia and the Pacific, represented UNODC at the ceremony.
The ceremony is one of many World Drug Day activities under the ONCB project "Power of the Nation conquers drug menace for 80th Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen". The participants, along with 30,000 observers, took an oath against drugs as a symbol of commitment to overcoming drugs menace.
