UN campaign targets international crime rackets

18 July 2012

Mr. Gary Lewis, UNODC Regional Representative for East Asia
and the Pacific, talks to Richard Ewart on the impact of transnational
organised crime in East Asia and the Pacific and the new UNODC
campaign to raise awareness on the extent of transnational organised crime.

Mr. Lewis explains, "I think we need to all be aware of the extent to
which our actions, our purchasing, our decisions can contribute to the
promotion of counterfeit goods, the promotion of fake medicines, whether
it be the furniture you buy is wooden furniture and whether it has a degree
of authenticity, or whether it's contributing to timber felling in the forests
of Indonesia."
