26 February 2019. As part of the 2019 Thailand Data Innovation Awards, the annual hackathon organized by the Digital Government Agency of Thailand, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Southeast-Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, together with the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand, the Khon Thai Foundation, and Hand Social Enterprise are partnering with the Digital Government Agency to launch the very first anti-corruption hackathon in Thailand.

UNODC supports the call for the best innovative answers bringing transparency, public scrutiny and social impact to citizens in Thailand! The winning team of the three-day hackathon will receive exciting prizes including an opportunity to participate in a global conference to pitch their ideas to top executives.

INNOVATION & OPEN DATA FOR ANTI-CORRUPTION: WHY IT MATTERS

Around the world, pilot-tested mobile applications have been truly promising in engaging a wide, diverse and active audience for transparency, public scrutiny and social benefits. Digital platforms can be used to address specific challenges of everyday corruption. In Thailand, open datasets have become increasingly more available, following trends elsewhere in the world: the Digital Government Agency manages the Government's central data portal, which includes 893 datasets related to economic development, transportation, industry and society, and government spending ( http://data.go.th/).

We are looking for technology which can:

In this context, this 3-day hackathon will provide a platform for participants to receive support to identify the challenges they want to solve with technology and develop their own prototypes, with the aim to promote better access to open data and information in Thailand, and prevent corruption in an impact-oriented, sustainable and innovative manner.

This hackathon is a team-based, curated competition in Bangkok aimed at bringing together participants from various educational and professional backgrounds. The organizers of the event will provide open datasets to be used during the challenge, as well as guidance from experts and mentors.
