Launch of Coordination and Strengthening of HIV, TB, and Hepatitis Services in Sindh Prisons, 8 March 2022

UNODC Country Office Pakistan, in coordination with the Sindh Prisons Department, organized an event on the Coordination and Strengthening of HIV, TB, and Hepatitis Services in Prison.  The ceremony was for officially handing over the implementation and management of the HIV, TB, and Hepatitis Module of the Prison Management Information System (PMIS), along with the equipment and setup for HIV testing and Counselling established at District Prison Malir, Sindh Prisons Department. 

This project was aimed at building the capacity of the health and prisons staff, and strengthening coordination between the Prisons, Health Department of Sindh, and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), to facilitate continuum of HIV, Hepatitis, and TB prevention, treatment, and care services to the prisoners.   

 Kazi Nazir Ahmed, Inspector General of Prisons, praised UNODC Pakistan, Health Department Sindh, and all stakeholders for their continuous support of the project and its implementation. 

Dr Jeremy Milsom, Representative UNODC, thanked the Prisons, Health Department Sindh, NADRA, UNAIDS, WHO, and other relevant stakeholders for supporting this project; and for establishing a strong collaboration between departments that can help improve the quality of life of prison inmates.
