The Law on Narcotic and Psychotropic substances of October 1951 (SR 812.121) is the main piece of legislation on drug control. Since 2001, several NPS have been placed under control such as khat, MBDB (see Verordnung des Schweizerischen Heilmittelinstituts über die Betäubungsmittel und psychotropen Stoffe (Betäubungsmittelverordnung Swissmedic, BetmV-Swissmedic) vom 12. Dezember 1996 (Stand am 18. Dezember 2001)).  

2C-I, 2C-T-2, 2C-T-7 and PMMA were added to the list in 2005 (see Verordnung des Schweizerischen Heilmittelinstituts über die Betäubungsmittel und psychotropen Stoffe (Betäubungsmittelverordnung Swissmedic, BetmV-Swissmedic) vom 12. Dezember 1996 (Stand am 15. November 2005)).

Mephedrone was added to the list in 2009; BZP, JWH-compounds, butylone, mCPP, p-CPP, 0-CPP, a number of 2C-compounds were added in 2010 (see here). NBOMe compounds, synthetic cathinones such as HU-210, 5-IT and other NPS such as AB-PINACA were place under control (Regulation of the EDI on the lists of narcotics, psychotropic substances, precursors and auxiliary chemicals (Narcotics directory Regulation, BetmVV-EDI) change of 8 November 2013 (see here).

Several benzodiazepines such as clonazolam, deschloroetizolam, diclazepam, etizolam, flubromazepam, flubromazolam, nifoxipam, and pyrazolam have also been added to the list of controlled drugs of 30. Mai 2011 (Stand am 15. Dezember 2020, see here).
