This module is a resource for lecturers
This Module is designed to introduce students to the subjects of police accountability, integrity and oversight. Structured in three key topics, the Module provides an overview of: the role of police in democratic societies, and the need for police accountability; integrity and oversight, key mechanisms for effective police oversight; and cross-cutting and contemporary issues in police accountability, oversight and integrity. The Module presents materials that lecturers can use to teach students to critically assess and a range of issues relevant to police accountability, including gender, police detention, the role of whistle-blowers in police accountability and diversity in policing. A series of innovative exercises allow students to practice their knowledge and skills in applying the international standards on police accountability, integrity and oversight to situations relevant to their local context.
