Based upon your overall understanding of the role of civil society in countering human trafficking, write an essay on responsibilities and contribution that might be made by individual members of the public to maximize efforts to combat trafficking in persons and assist and protect trafficked persons.

Alternatively, students may be asked to visit an NGO that provides services or is working in the area of human rights, protection of victims or related work in the area of combating human trafficking and draft a critical report on the visit.

Essays should be no longer than 2500 words.

Alternative Student Assessment

The following assessment allows students to think creatively about the role of business in addressing human trafficking.

You are the CEO of a global company headquartered in Germany. You have recently discovered that a number of your operations in Africa and South Asia have utilised trafficked workers. To what extent do you believe you have a legal duty to do something about this and what would your strategy be to resolve the issue?

This assessment could be part of a timed exam (30 mins) or written in the form of coursework or an essay (max. 2,500 words).
