UNODC Strengthens Capacities in Trinidad and Tobago to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse Online

Trinidad and Tobago, 6th and 7TH March 2024. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through the Global Cybercrime Programme under the project "Strengthening Trinidad and Tobago's Capabilities to Prevent and Effectively Counter Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Online and Related Offenses" conducted the workshop "Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Online." The workshop targeted 20 public officials from security and justice institutions.
The introductory session focused on the crucial task of preventing cybercrimes aimed at children and adolescents, such as a comprehensive guide to recognizing and preventing online risks, identifying signs of online Child sexual abuse, and understanding who the Perpetrators, responsible online behaviors, Privacy, and Safe Information sharing; Safeguarding evidence in online abuse cases, while also Vigilant Voices: Reporting online child abuse.
Furthermore, working groups were carried out with the main objective of implementing concrete strategies within communities, aiming to empower participants with tools and knowledge to create safer and responsible digital environments for the new generations while considering the Multisectoral Response and Capacity Assessment (MRC).
Twenty prominent professionals from various key institutions in Trinidad and Tobago are involved in enriching participation in these initiatives. This includes representatives from the Police Service, specifically from the Central Division, Southern Division, Easter Division, Southwestern Division, North Esther Division, Cyber and Social Media Unit, and the Attorney General and Legal Affairs (AGLA).
These actions were carried out with the assistance of international experts from the USA and UNODC, thanks to the financial support of the Government of Canada.
