Press Release: Egyptian Public Prosecution and UNODC continue building the capacity and skills of its members to protect and promote human rights

Alexandria, Egypt – 4 September 2023

The Egyptian Public Prosecutor's Office continues its efforts to support the technical capacity-building of its members in the field of human rights in cooperation and coordination with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for the Middle East and North Africa (UNODC) through intensive trainings that contain both theoretical and operational subjects in accordance with relevant constitutional and international requirements.

Proceeding from its role in developing the justice system in accordance with international requirements, UNODC is organizing a specialized training for national trainers in cooperation with the Public Prosecutor's Office as part of the commitment that human rights must be protected in the context of the justice system.

The training is within the framework of the “Strengthening the Capacity of the Egyptian Public Prosecution to contribute to a better protection of Human Rights within the Criminal Justice System” project funded by the United States of America Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (USA/INL).

The purpose of this course is to develop national cadres of prosecutors capable of transferring the knowledge and skills acquired to other members of the Public Prosecutor's Office in the field of human rights. This is part of Egypt’s efforts that all State institutions should put into force the constitutional entitlements of the 2014 Constitution and give effect to the National Human Rights Strategy.
