The Economic and Social Council,

Having noted that the habitual chewing of the leaves of khat (catha edulis) has become widespread in several countries,

Recognizing that this habit gives rise to a grave social problem in the countries affected,

Invites the World Health Organization to study the medical aspects of the problem and to report thereon to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.**/
