United Nations Documents Dealing with Narcotic Drugs

A list of the more important United Nations documents relating to narcotic drugs is given in the following pages. These documents contain a variety of information, legal, technical, administrative and the like.

Documents that were merely ephemeral have been omitted. The selection was made to help the research worker and it may not be above criticism. Since most of the documents belong to a strictly defined category, it was thought preferable to avoid multiple references which would make the list unwieldy.

It is hoped that, such as it is, this list will be useful. All documents can be consulted either at the Permanent Headquarters of the United Nations, or at the United Nations Library in Geneva.

The documents are classified as follows:

I. Raw materials and derivatives

A. Opium and derivatives

B. Coca leaf and derivatives

C. Indian hemp and derivatives

II. Trade in narcotics

A. Legal trade

B. Illicit traffic

III. Drug addiction

IV. Control

A. General

B. Systematic account of the work of the international bodies dealing with narcotics
