UNODC convened 26 civil society organizations (CSOs) from across Southern Africa for the Regional Conference held in Livingstone, Zambia in October 2019. CSOs were at the forefront in adopting recommendations alongside governments at the Regional Conference and designing civil society initiatives for cross-border collaboration to fast-track UNCAC implementation in the region.
CSOs from Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe have been asked to respond to a baseline assessment questionnaire to solicit their inputs on the status of anti-corruption legislation and practices in their respective countries. The collated responses will be taken into consideration in technical discussions with the relevant Member States.
The Africa Anti-Corruption e-Platform was expanded with the new participants of the conference (over 80 CSO registrations so far), and continuing to grow.
A follow-up civil society roundtable to the Regional Conference was due to take place in Cape Town in September 2020 to discuss ongoing anti-corruption efforts in the platform, however, due to the pandemic it has been postponed to early 2021.
