Whistle-blower protection has been identified as a priority area within the Regional Platform for Southern Africa. The workshop will gather relevant national anti-corruption bodies of Botswana in order to exchange international best practices, key concepts and practical tools to effectively protect whistle-blowers at the national and institutional level.

National Workshop on Whistleblower Protection in Paraguay

Whistle-blower protection has been identified as a priority area withing the Regional Platform for South America and Mexico. The workshop gathered 90 government officials to discuss the importance of having an adequate infrastructure to receive reports about misconduct and to protect those who dare to speak up. Establishing and strengthening coordination mechanisms and creating transparent public procurement processes will help respond to and recover from the COVID-19 crisis and possible future crisis.

Workshop on the Interoperability of Databases to Verify Asset Declarations

The objective of the event was to foster South-South Cooperation from experts of the Comptroller Office of Colombia, who, during the event explained their experience with the software Oceano, which collects and analyses data to prevent and detect corruption.

Capacity Building Programme on Liability of Legal Persons and Corporate Compliance

UNODC supported this public-private initiative which responds to recent reforms of the criminal code, by delivering a session on how to assess the effectiveness of anti-corruption programmes of ethics and compliance.

Socioeconomic Rescue Packages in Latin America and the Caribbean in Response to COVID-19

In the launch event, UNODC presented the corruption risks associated to the implementation of socioeconomic response programmes in times of emergency, along with good practices to mitigate them.

Integrity Pacts: A Commitment to Fight Corruption Together

UNODC supported the webinar “Integrity Pacts: A Commitment to Fight Corruption Together”, organized by the Argentinian-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK-AR).  UNODC highlighted the key role of the private sector in the fight against corruption, including through the effective implementation of programmes of corporate compliance.

Training on the Relevance of UNCAC in the Fight against Corruption

The Training had a focus on the relevance of UNCAC in the fight against corruption, with a special emphasis on access to public information (art. 10), organized in conjunction with the Latin American Network for Legislative Transparency and attended by 35 participants of civil society organizations.

Workshop on the Liability of Legal Persons and the Adequacy of Corporate Compliance Systems

The objective of the workshop was to support Bolivia to strengthen the regulation of the liability of legal persons while promoting corporate compliance. UNODC presented international standards and good practices. South-South cooperation was fostered through the participation of the prosecution service of Chile.

The objective of the workshop was to support Bolivia to strengthen the national system of integrity and transparency, particularly under the context of COVID-19. South-South cooperation was fostered through a panel on asset declarations with the participation of Colombia, Peru and Mexico.

The event aimed at providing capacity building on the standards set forth by the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the development and implementation of national strategies to fight corruption.

National Workshop on Whistleblower Protection

Whistle-blower protection has been identified as a priority area within the Regional Platform for Southern Africa. The workshop gathered relevant national anti-corruption bodies of Zimbabwe in order to facilitate the development of draft legislation on whistle-blower protection. The workshop also offered the opportunity to exchange international best practices, key concepts and practical tools to effectively protect whistle-blowers at the national and institutional level. 

Objectives:

  • Providing detailed information and training on international and national best practices as well as institutional policy development on whistle-blower protection and undertaking an analysis of Zimbabwe’s existing whistle-blower protection framework.
  • Facilitating open discussions on the pragmatic steps to be taken to adopt a comprehensive, dedicated whistle-blower protection law in Zimbabwe.

Inter-agency coordination has been identified as a priority area within the Regional Platform for Southern Africa. The workshop gathered relevant national anti-corruption bodies of Zimbabwe with the aim of providing assistance for the establishment of a national taskforce for inter-agency coordination in Zimbabwe.

Objectives:

  • Providing comprehensive training on standard policies and procedures, including practical national cases, related to inter-agency coordination.
  • Facilitating open discussions on the pragmatic steps to be taken to establish a national anti-corruption coordinating committee in the context of Zimbabwe.
