A WHO-UNODC Collaboration
WHO and UNODC have established an Interagency of Technical Working Group (ITWG) to increase the effectiveness and impact of interagency collaboration on prevention and treatment of drug use and drug use disorders, aiming at accelerating the implementation of the relevant UNGASS 2016 (DOC PDF) recommendations and the achievement of SDGs (SDGs webpage) health target 3.5.
The Working Group would constitute a further development in the ongoing UNODC-WHO collaboration on drug dependance treatment, focusing on strengthening international support at all levels for effective and ethical drug prevention and treatment strategies and interventions.
The goal of the ITWG would be a substantial increase in interagency coordination and collaboration in the development, implementation, quality assurance and evaluation of policies and programmes aimed at the prevention of drug use and the treatment, care and rehabilitation of people with drug use disorders.
