Global SMART Update 2010
Vol. 3
The Global SMART Update is designed to provide regular reporting on emerging patterns and trends of the fast changing global synthetic drug situation. In this issue, the focus lies on the harms that arise from the use of these synthetic drugs - not only directly with incidences of addiction and toxicity but indirectly through the environmental damage resulting from sourcing naturally occurring precursors and the disposal of their seizures. This issue also highlights the increasing trafficking in Captagon throughout the Middle East and changes in national legislation and proposed changes in international controls to better combat the trafficking of precursor chemicals such as phenylacetic acid. |
