UNODC’s work in the area of corruption and crime in sport was mandated by the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption through the adoption of two resolutions by over 180 States parties, namely:
These resolutions set out the key issues that need to be addressed to tackle the problem of corruption in sport and outline the actions that States parties have committed to taking in order to do so.

To support the implementation of the above-mentioned resolutions by Governments, sports organizations and related stakeholders, UNODC launched a Programme on Safeguarding Sport from Corruption and Crime.
