Consisting of 43 entities, as members or observers, the Compact is mandated to enhance coordination and coherence of the counter-terrorism efforts of the United Nations system. UNODC actively contributes to the eight Working Groups of the Compact. UNODC is the Chair of the Working Group on Criminal Justice, Legal Responses and Countering the Financing of Terrorism. UNODC also serves as the vice-chair of the Working Groups on Resource Mobilization, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Border Management and Law Enforcement.
UNODC works with requesting Member States to draft and implement national counterterrorism action plans to assist criminal justice officials in addressing the complex nature of terrorist offences in coordination with civil society organizations. We engage closely with civil society organizations in our work on victims of terrorism and preventing violent extremism conducive to terrorism.
