Within the joint UNODC – UNDP BiH project “”Halting arms and lawbreaking trade (HALT)”, the two implementing agencies held a workshop in Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 29 September to 1 October 2020 with the objective to assist the Indirect Taxation Agency (ITA) with the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on countering illicit firearms trafficking. The participants reviewed the draft SOP’s and provided comments for their improvement. The SOP’s are important tools that will contribute towards improving ITA’s work on detection of firearms trafficking, including detection of firearms in postal parcels. The workshop also focused on developing a training plan for rolling out the SOP’s. The participants agreed that the final draft of the SOP’s will be delivered by mid-October 2020.
The financial support for this project is provided under the Western Balkans SALW Control Roadmap Multi-Partner Trust Fund by Germany, UK, Netherlands, France, Sweden and Norway.
