Afghanistan, 08 March 2022 - This International Women’s Day, UNODC’s Alternative Development Programme salutes the resilient women entrepreneurs of Afghanistan who continue to build their business despite the current economic and political crisis in the country.
Women’s work, engagement and contribution are critical to the households and country’s economy. The AD Programme remains committed to supporting women’s economic empowerment in Afghanistan by providing them with income generation interventions and opportunities. As part of this endeavor, two of the women group who were supported by the programme displayed and sold their products in the market/bazaar that was organized in the UNOCA compound. It was heartening to see that the work carries on despite no financial support provided in the last 15 months. Though the production has shrunk, and the market avenues are limited.
