Niamey, Niger 24 January 2022 - UNODC, under the framework of the Global Action to address Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants (GLO.ACT-Niger), works on supporting the Government of Niger in the design and implementation of a national data collection and monitoring system on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM). To consolidate the integrated approach to data collection, monitoring and sharing and reinforce capacities of national authorities for a more systematic record, analysis and sharing of data to inform evidence-based policies and initiatives, the GLO.ACT team organized a second training of trainers' workshop on data collection, analysis and reporting techniques from 18 to 20 January 2022 in Niamey.

The opening ceremony of the activity was presided by ANLTP/TIM's Director-General Ousmane Mamane, who congratulated UNODC for its continued support to the ANLTP/TIM in the fight against TIP and SOM. During the three working days, participants had the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions and ran simulation exercises about data analysis. They also enhanced their knowledge of reporting techniques.
ANLTP/TIM and GLO.ACT was thrilled with the positive engagement of all participants and their interest in developing and implementing the national data collection, monitoring and reporting system. Looking ahead, the GLO.ACT team will facilitate two local workshops on data collection, analysis and reporting, aiming to reinforce further the capacities of data providers and focal points at the local level. ANLTP's experts who will deliver the workshops attended the two training of trainers UNODC provided under the GLOACT project, accompanied by UNODC staff. The first local workshop will take place in Agadez in late January 20222.
The Global Action against Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants – Niger (GLO.ACT-Niger, 2019-2022) is a € 500.000 joint initiative by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). An earlier phase of this project (2015-2019) was supported by the European Union.
The project builds on a global community of practice set in motion in GLO.ACT 2015-2019 and assists the Government of Niger in targeted, innovative and demand-driven interventions: sustaining effective strategy and policy development, strengthening the criminal justice response, and regional and trans-regional cooperation.
