Bamako (Mali), 31 July 2023 – At an event in Bamako to mark World Day against Trafficking in Persons Mali’s Minister of Justice and Human Rights Mamoudou Kassogue officially announced the country’s commitment to join the Blue Heart Campaign against human trafficking.
The event was organized by UNODC, together with the National Coordination Committee for the Fight against Trafficking in Persons and Assimilated Practices (National Comité National de lutte contre la traite des personnes et pratiques assimilées (CNLTP/PA)) and involved representatives of the International Organization for Migration, as well as civil society.
In the run-up to the launch of the Blue Heart Campaign, Mali trained young jurists to empower them with advocacy skills focused on combating trafficking in persons. This initiative aimed to build a knowledgeable and proactive legal community to address the challenges posed by human trafficking.
Various events and awareness-raising programmes were also held and organized in the country under the Blue Heart Campaign, such as a football match with financial and technical partners, as well as the police and gendarmerie, reaching the country’s youth to raise awareness bout the risks and consequences of human trafficking.
UNODC, in collaboration with civil society, CNLTP/PA, and IOM, organized an awareness-raising programme targeting civil society actors in the Koulikoro region. This event sought to inform and engage local communities in the fight against human trafficking.
