Gambia, 31 July 2023 – At an event to mark World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the National Agency against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) of The Gambia announced its commitment to join the Blue Heart Campaign.
The Executive Director of NAATIP, Isatou Dabo, emphasized the agency's commitment to supporting the rehabilitation of human trafficking survivors. Ms. Dabo also pledged to serve as a consistent voice, advocate, and ally in the quest for justice. She acknowledged the profound impact of trafficking on individuals, reminding everyone that “behind each statistic is a person whose life has been shattered, dreams disrupted, and dignity taken away.” She assured survivors, saying, "You are not alone; NAATIP stands beside you as a beacon of hope."
The launch event marked a significant milestone in the country’s battle against trafficking and was attended by US Ambassador to The Gambia Sharon L. Cromer, UN Resident Coordinator Seraphine Wakana, human trafficking survivors, representatives of civil society organizations, as well as journalists.
Trainings for police inspectors and social and health workers were also part of the events around the campaign launch and were organized to improve skills to identify and fight human trafficking, as well as assist and refer victims.
As a supporter of the Blue Heart Campaign, The Gambia is committed to combat human trafficking through awareness-raising, education, and collaboration with key stakeholders such as law enforcement, social workers, and local communities.
