At an event to mark World Day against Trafficking in Persons, Chad officially announced its support for the Blue Heart Campaign against human trafficking.
Chad plays a significant role as a source, destination, and transit country for victims of human trafficking. Many young people risk their lives on irregular migration routes, making them vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation.
Recognizing the vulnerability of young people, children, and women in Chad, the event hosted 200 students of the CEFOD Business School and the University of N’Djamena, with theatre performances, lively debates and film screenings focusing on fostering understanding but also actively involving students in preventing and combating this crime.
“Due to its geographical position, poverty and security challenges, Chad is unfortunately not sheltered from this phenomenon,” said Carlos Rotta, Chairman of the Multisectoral Technical Committee on Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, calling for increased awareness-raising efforts to combat human trafficking and illicit migration in the country.
Also present at the event were the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, UNODC, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Tweets
