Vienna (Austria) – 9 November 2023 – In one month, the world will celebrate International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) 2023. To mark the occasion, we are calling on civil society organisations, the private sector, academia, and citizens around the world to stand #UnitedAgainstCorruption. This year’s IACD campaign will also count down to the forthcoming 20th anniversary of the UN Convention against Corruption in 2023.
This year’s theme for IACD is "UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption". The campaign has been designed as a biennial campaign to highlight the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Building upon the success of last year's campaign, the 2023 campaign continues to emphasize the significance of reflecting on both the successes and remaining gaps in the implementation of the Convention.
The 2023 IACD commemorates the twentieth anniversary of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on the positive changes brought about by the collective efforts driven by the Convention. Equally crucial is our examination of the remaining gaps that require attention to ensure that this mechanism continues to strengthen in the years ahead.
What can your NGO do?
Civil society organizations are the eyes and ears of society against corruption, and society’s strong participation at all levels is required to effectively fight corruption. In support of IACD 2023 NGOs can:
Network and mobilise people to take action: organize events, in person, hybrid or virtual with national counterparts, distribute the campaign materials, set up petitions, call on government representatives to take more action, etc. We kindly ask you to inform us of planned activities in advance.;
Raise their voices and advocate: write letters, newspaper articles, adverts and newsletters, and participate in radio or televised interviews;
Speak out on social media: adopt the IACD logo as profile pictures and increase visibility of campaign materials in order to raise awareness by using the hashtags #UnitedAgainstCorruption and #IACD2023 on all digital platforms for the International Anti-Corruption Day outreach.The hashtag #UNCAC20 is used to mark the 20th anniversary of the Convention.
We look forward to hearing about your actions so please let us know any activities you have conducted by email at this address: unodc-ngounit@un.org or through Twitter at @UNODCCST.
Join people all over the world who stand #UnitedAgainstCorruption and spread the word about your activities!
