Director-General/Executive Director
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you for joining the launch of the UN Consolidated Counter-Terrorism Multi-Year Appeal for 2021 to 2022.
The UN Office on Drugs and Crime is proud to be part of this unique and ambitious collaboration that brings together UNOCT, CTED and other members of the Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact.
UNODC’s new corporate strategy, as well as our Strategic Vision for Africa, highlight the need to protect all people, and in particular the vulnerable, from terrorism and violent extremism, as an area for international investment.
In this context, I would like to highlight key examples of the joint work that we are proposing through this Multi-Year Appeal:
Measuring our results is crucial to further tailoring effective action against terrorism and violent extremism. That is why UNODC is working with OCT and UNICRI on a first-of-its-kind evaluation of the UN system counter-terrorism efforts.
This exercise aims at providing Member States with useful and usable information on results and lessons learned, to inform more strategic counter-terrorism responses.
Going forward, I am confident that together, we can galvanize international support for the projects in the Multi-Year Appeal, to drive new solutions and effective responses to stop terrorists from undermining peace, security, and development.
Thank you.
