Supporting ECCAS

The Environment Team implements an EU-funded project on strengthening national and regional capacities of ECCAS member states to combat wildlife crime and illicit trafficking in natural resources. Support is provided to: Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Republic of the Congo.

Tisserands de la Paix/Peace Weavers

UNESCO and UNODC partner under the Peace Building Fund to deliver the 'Tisserands de la Paix/Young Weavers of Peace' project establishing a network of 1,800 young peace weavers, who will be key players in peacebuilding and conflict prevention to counter insecurity, growing crime and illicit trafficking in the cross-border regions of Gabon, Cameroon and Chad.

Preventing and combating corruption

The Environment Team and the UNODC Corruption and Economic Crime Branch are working with wildlife, forest and fisheries authorities to identify and mitigate corruption risks. Countries assisted to date include the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana and Nigeria.

Strengthening Nigeria's response to wildlife crime

The Government of Nigeria has made considerable progress to address wildlife and forest crime in 2021 supported by UNODC through the Country Office and the Environment Team. This close partnership will continue in 2022 to support the implementation of the new national strategy.
