UNODC/TPB Teams up with OSCE and CTED for an International Counter-Terrorism Event Organized in Israel
The International Conference on Criminal Justice Responses to Terrorism was held in Tel-Aviv on 10-12 November 2014. It brought together senior criminal justice officers and experts in counter-terrorism field from 28 OSCE participating States and partner countries for co-operation, as well as representatives of several key international and regional organizations.  Read more>

UNODC/TPB Holds the First National Workshop of the European Union-Funded Action to Strengthen Counter-Terrorism Efforts in the Maghreb Region
This initiative, launched in June 2014 at a regional conference in Tunis, aims at strengthening the capacity of countries of the Maghreb region, especially Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, in investigating and prosecuting counter-terrorism cases while respecting human rights and the rule of law.  Read more>

 

UNODC/TPB was the First Entity to Provide Iraqi Officials with Technical Assistance on United Nations Security Council Resolutions S/RES/2170 (2014) (kidnapping for ransom) and S/RES/2178 (2014) (foreign terrorism fighters)
In Amman on 27-30 October 2014, UNODC/TPB organized a national workshop for Iraq entitled "Strengthening International Cooperation in Countering Terrorism as Provided by the Universal Legal Instruments against Terrorism and the Relevant Security Council Resolutions Including S/RES/2170 (2014) and S/RES/2178 (2014)".  Read more>

UNODC/TPB Organized a National Workshop for Egyptian Officials on Strengthening International Judicial Cooperation against Terrorism

The workshop was part of the plan of action between the Government of Egypt and UNODC/TPB, the activities under which are generously funded by the Government of Japan. UNODC/TPB plans several additional specialized technical assistance activities for Egypt in the coming months. The workshop took place in Cairo on 23-25 September 2014.  Read more>

UNODC/TPB and the Criminal Justice Sector and Rule of Law Working Group of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) hosted the Second Expert Group Meeting on Protecting and Using Intelligence Information in Rule of Law-Based, Criminal Justice Sector-Led Investigations and Prosecutions at the UNODC headquarters in Vienna, Austria on 7-8 July 2014.  Read more>

 

UNODC/TPB Launches Three Unprecedented Technical Tools to Prevent and Combat Terrorism and Its Financing in Colombia
On 2 July 2014, in Bogotá, Colombia, UNODC/TPB launched three unique technical assistance tools, namely (i) the  Guide for Colombia on the Legal Regime against Terrorism and Its Financing ; (ii) the plan (case management tool) to conduct criminal investigations of the financing of terrorism offences in Colombia,and (iii) the Observatory of Jurisprudence for the Americas.  Read more>

 

UNODC/TPB Commenced Cooperation with the Recently Established International Institute for Justice and Rule of Law through a Regional Workshop for Libya and Other Countries in the Middle East and North Africa
Only few days after the inauguration of the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law in Malta (IIJ), the Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC/TPB) and the IIJ, held a regional workshop on cross-border cooperation related to the fight against the financing of terrorism and other serious crimes. As a part of its ongoing project on strengthening the legal regime against terrorism for Egypt, that is generously funded by Japan, and in close cooperation with the Egyptian counterparts, UNODC/TPB conducted a national workshop on the prevention of terrorist financing, its investigation and prosecution.
