UNODC Launches Technical Assistance to Egypt within the Framework of the Initiative on Foreign Terrorist Fighters

The UNODC Terrorism Prevention Branch (UNDOC/TPB) commenced the implementation of its five-year Initiative on Criminal Justice Responses to Foreign Terrorist Fighters in Egypt with a national workshop on the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of the financing of foreign terrorist fighters. Promoting the Entry into Force of the 2005 Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material
On 28 and 29 October 2015, UNODC, in cooperation with the IAEA, held a High-Level Workshop on the Promotion of the Entry into Force of the 2005 Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material. The Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) and its Amendment are legally binding instruments that promote nuclear security and counter nuclear terrorism. Read more >

On 18 May 2015, on the margins of the 24th CCPCJ session, UNODC/TPB organized a High Level Special Event on Strengthening Criminal Justice Responses to the Phenomenon of Foreign Terrorist Fighters which counted the participation of senior officers from Member States and international and regional organizations, as well as high-level keynote speakers. Assisting Tunisia in Development of National Policies and Programmes to Support Victims of Terrorist Acts
The seminar took place on 12-14 May 2015 in Tunis. The UNODC Terrorism Prevention Branch seized a particularly apt moment to deliver this capacity building training. Once adopted, a new draft counter-terrorism law that is currently being debated in the Tunisian Parliament, will serve as a basis for addressing the issue of victims of terrorist acts in Tunisia for the first time. UNODC/TPB Held a National Workshop in Morocco under the European Union-funded Action to Strengthen Counter-Terrorism Efforts in the Maghreb Region
The UNODC-CTED initiative, launched in June 2014, aims at strengthening the capacity of countries in the Maghreb region, especially Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, in investigating and prosecuting counter-terrorism cases while respecting human rights and the rule of law. UNODC/TPB Holds a National Workshop for Algerian Officials on Criminal Justice Prevention to Counter the Appeal of Terrorism
This training workshop was the first one implemented in Algeria under the UNODC-CTED-EU Initiative for the Maghreb Region. Development of a criminal justice response to counter the appeal of terrorism was identified as a major priority for the Government of Algeria.
