On 11 July 2024, at the margins of the ECOSOC High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Vice-First Chair of the CND, H.E. Ambassador Asad Alam Siam, together with CCPCJ Chair, H.E. Ambassador Ivo Šrámek, and the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York, led a side event on the importance of “Forging synergies for sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions: The Vienna-based Commissions cooperating with others to advance SDGs 3, 16 and the 2030 Agenda”. Several subsidiary bodies of ECOSOC made substantive contributions.

Chair of the CND making his speech
On 1 February 2024, at the margins of the ECOSOC Coordination Segment, the Chair of the CND, H.E. Philbert Johnson, held an online roundtable discussion with other ECOSOC subsidiary bodies. The meeting was opened by the President of ECOSOC, H.E. Paula Narváez. Valuable contributions were made by Chairs or members of the Bureaux of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the Commission on Population and Development, the Commission for Social Development, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Statistical Commission. The Chair gathered input from the point of view of other subsidiary bodies ahead of the CND’s mid-term review of the implementation of all drug policy commitments.

On 27 September 2023, the Chairs of CCPCJ and CND briefed the Third Committee of the General Assembly on the work of the two Commissions, ahead of the Committee’s consideration of the agenda items on drug control and crime prevention.

On the opening day of the 32nd Regular Session of the CCPCJ, the Chair of the Commission held a High-level Special Event on “Achieving SDG 16: the Contribution by the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice”, in the presence of the President of the General Assembly at its 77th Session, H.E. Csaba KŐRÖSI, who called for urgent action in support of SDG 16.

The CND and CCPCJ organized, during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2021, a side event on “The Impact of COVID-19 on Drugs and Crime - Sustainable and resilient recovery through the lenses of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice”.

The Vienna-based Commission organized a joint CND & CCPCJ Special event to honour the visit of the President of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly H.E. Ms. María Fernada Espinosa Garcés on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Vienna International Centre on "Contributions of the Vienna Commissions to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda".
