Summary

This Module addressed several important mechanisms designed to foster international cooperation in cases of transnational organized crime. Enhancing cross-border cooperation is central to responding effectively to cross-border crime. The measures discussed included mutual legal assistance, extradition, international cooperation for transfer of criminal proceedings, and transfer of sentenced persons. It can be seen that significant national and international effort has been placed in designing international treaties, model treaties and laws to improve the effectiveness of the global response to transnational organized crime. Much room for improvement in their implementation remains.
