E4J Online Training-of-Trainers Course for University Lecturers updated by UNODC and the Open University, United Kingdom

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Open University UK (OU) continue their partnership on developing online resources for educators to support the global roll-out of the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative.

In 2019, UNODC and the Open Justice Centre – part of the OU’s Law School – joined forces to support integrity and ethics education in universities across the world. In the framework of this cooperation, a certified five-hour Online Training-of-Trainers (TOT) Course was launched in November 2019, offering an accessible and inspiring introduction to the content, teaching methods and ethical concepts underpinning the E4J University Module Series on Integrity and Ethics. The Online TOT Course develops lectures’ capacity to use the E4J Modules in class and to successfully incorporate integrity and ethics teaching into their curricula.

Expanding on the Integrity and Ethics Modules, UNODC is currently developing a new E4J University Module Series on Anti-Corruption, designed to support university lecturers in empowering youth to resist and prevent corruption. The first 10 Anti-Corruption Modules were recently published on the E4J website.

In this regard, UNODC and OU updated the Online TOT Course with materials from the Anti-Corruption Modules, and the Course now covers both University Module Series. The updated Online TOT Course will help university lecturers to teach the next generation to better understand and address problems that can undermine the rule of law. The Course is particularly appropriate in the current global circumstances, as an innovative distance learning tool which guides lecturers on integrating anti-corruption, integrity and ethics issues in their curricula as they move to a digital or blended teaching environment.

The Course further demonstrates that UNODC’s University Modules can be an important and timely addition to any curriculum, leaning on the expertise of hundreds of experts, and offering innovative exercises and online materials as well as solid facts and contemporary perspectives on the wide ramifications of challenges to rule of law. By helping educators prepare and empower the next generation, we aim to inspire change, together, even in the time of a global pandemic.
